What Vanuatu passport means

The Vanuatu passport is the citizen's travel document. An adult passport is valid for 10 years, a child's for 5. The state fee for an ordinary passport is 5,000 VT per person.

The passport is issued from Form B and the birth registration certificate. It arrives weeks after the citizenship certificate; at handover we check every passport for typos.

There is currently no visa-free Schengen access on a Vanuatu passport: for Europe you need a visa or a Greek residence permit.

A simple example

A family received four passports: two adult for 10 years and two child for 5. We checked each and set renewal dates in our CRM.

Key facts

01Validity

Adults 10 years, children 5 years

The expiry date is printed in the passport. Start the renewal early, not in the final month.

02Government fee

5,000 VT per person

This is the fee for a standard passport, in vatu, not dollars. A family of four pays 20,000 VT, converted at the rate on the payment date.

03When it arrives

Weeks after the certificate

The family first receives the citizenship certificate; the passport follows later. It is issued on the basis of passport form B and the birth registration certificate.

04Travel to Europe

No visa-free Schengen access at present

A Vanuatu citizen needs a visa or a residence permit for Europe, for example a Greek residence permit.

Common mistakes

Counting on visa-free travel to Europe.

A Vanuatu passport does not currently give visa-free Schengen access. For Europe you need a visa or a residence permit, such as a Greek one.

Not checking the passports for typos at handover.

Check the name, date of birth and other details in each passport as soon as you receive it. We go through the family's passports with you.

Starting the renewal in the final month.

A child's passport lasts 5 years, an adult's 10. We put the renewal dates in the calendar so you can start early.
