The Second Home visa

Indonesian residencySecond Home

A visa for five or ten years to live in Indonesia. There is no need to invest in a business or buy property — the funds stay in your account. The family lives alongside you for the same term.

  • The conditions are checked against Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration
  • Working since 2004

01 / About the program

How the Second Home visa works

Indonesia introduced this visa to attract well-off foreigners and pensioners for a long stay. There is one requirement and it is clear: evidenced funds in an account. The programme requires neither a business nor the purchase of property.

01

Funds in an account, not an investment

The account of the applicant or of a guarantor is evidenced, holding no less than 2 billion rupiah. The money stays yours: the state does not take it.

02

Five or ten years

The permitted term of stay is set when the visa is issued. It is one of the longest horizons among the programmes of South-East Asia.

03

A passport valid 36 months ahead

A formal but strict requirement: the passport must be valid for at least three years at the moment of filing.

04

The visa must be used within 90 days

Once issued the visa is valid for a limited time: you have to enter within ninety days or it lapses.

02 / What you get

What the Second Home visa gives you

A long term of stay

Five or ten years of residence with no annual renewal — a rarity for the region.

No investment in the economy

There is no need to open a company or buy property: funds in an account are evidenced.

Life on Bali and Java

The status makes it possible to live in the country lawfully instead of renewing tourist visas every two months.

The family together

A spouse and children are arranged as accompanying family members under the immigration service’s rules.

A low cost of living

Housing, food and services cost markedly less than in Europe, with infrastructure well developed for foreigners.

A base in Asia

A convenient point for travel around the region and for working with Asian markets.

03 / Why people apply

Why people arrange the Second Home visa

The visa is taken by those already living in Indonesia on tourist renewals who want a lawful long status, and by those planning a move to Bali.

An end to visa runs

Instead of constant renewals and border trips — a lawful status for five or ten years.

A clear requirement

One figure in an account instead of evaluative criteria and interviews.

The climate and the cost of living

The tropics all year round and a budget on which quality of life beats Europe for the same money.

The funds stay yours

This is neither a contribution nor an investment: the money sits in the account and works for you.

A family move

A spouse and children obtain an accompanying status and live in the country together with the applicant.

An Asian hub

Direct flights around the region, convenient for those working with Asia remotely.

04 / Travel

What the Second Home visa gives you

The visa gives a long lawful stay in Indonesia, but it is not citizenship and does not lead to it.

Mode 01

Indonesia for 5 or 10 years

Residence in the country for the term set. The visa must be used within 90 days of the date of issue.

Mode 02

Leaving and returning

The procedure for multiple entry depends on the type of permission issued; the conditions are checked when the KITAS is arranged.

Mode 03

Work needs a separate permit

The status is not a work visa. Employment in Indonesia requires a different type of permission.

Mode 04

The rest of the world on your own passport

Travel to third countries is governed by your passport of citizenship.

The conditions follow the rules of Indonesia’s Directorate General of Immigration. The rupiah rate moves, so the dollar equivalent is given as a guide. On top of evidencing the funds come the visa fees, arranging the KITAS, the insurance, the housing and the support.

10 / How it works

How the process works

STEP 1

Checking the conditions

We check the validity of the passport, the structure of the funds and whose account will serve as the evidence — yours or a guarantor’s.

STEP 2

Preparing the evidence of funds

A bank statement for a sum from 2 billion rupiah or the equivalent, with translation and legalisation to the service’s requirements.

STEP 3

Filing through the portal

The application is made through the web portal of Indonesia’s immigration service, with the documents uploaded.

STEP 4

The visa is issued and you enter

After approval the visa is issued with a limited window for use: you have to enter within 90 days.

STEP 5

Arranging the KITAS

After entry the stay permit is arranged, along with registration at an address and the local documents.

STEP 6

Support for the status

We watch that the conditions hold, arrange the accompanying family members and prepare the renewal.

11 / Our role

Why people arrange Second Home with us

The requirement looks simple, but applications are turned down over the form the evidence of funds takes and over missed windows for using the visa.

01

We prepare the evidence of funds

The service looks at the form of the statement and at whose account it is. We prepare the document the way it is accepted.

02

We watch the deadlines

The visa lapses if you do not enter within 90 days. We plan the filing around your real timetable for the move.

03

We arrange the family

Accompanying family members are filed by separate applications: we gather the documents of relationship in advance.

04

We stay with you after entry

The KITAS, registration at an address, a bank account and the questions around renewing the status.

Answers to common questions

The account of the applicant or of a guarantor is evidenced, holding no less than 2 billion rupiah — around 130 thousand dollars at the current rate. The money stays yours: it is neither a contribution nor an investment.

The permitted stay is five or ten years and is set when the visa is issued. The visa itself, meanwhile, must be used within ninety days of the date of issue.

No. Unlike Malaysia’s MM2H, buying a home is not required: evidencing funds in an account is enough.

The Second Home visa is not a work visa. Employment requires a separate permit under the ordinary rules.

The passport must be valid for at least thirty-six months at the moment of filing. It is a formal but compulsory condition.

A spouse and minor children are arranged as accompanying family members by separate applications. The documents of relationship are legalised and translated.

No. It is a long-term stay; Indonesian citizenship is not granted along this line, and the country does not recognise dual citizenship for adults.

Living there more than 183 days in a year, yes, under the local rules. The tax consequences are worked out before the move, together with an adviser.

Preparing the documents and filing through the portal usually takes a few weeks. After that what matters is entering the country within ninety days of the date the visa was issued.

The programme sets no restrictions on citizenship. The practical part is transferring the funds and evidencing their origin for the bank.
