02 / In plain words

What Vanuatu FIU due diligence means

The FIU (Financial Intelligence Unit) is Vanuatu's financial intelligence unit. It runs the state due diligence check: sanctions, criminal records, reputation and connections of the applicant and all adult family members.

Certified passport copies are submitted, and from age 18 a second ID and a criminal record certificate, a CV and part 1 of the CIIP form. Collecting documents takes 3-5 working days, and the check about a week.

With clients we call this stage the due diligence check. The result is an FIU letter, after which the Commission file is submitted.

A simple example

A family sent passport copies and certificates; 4 days later the documents went for the check, a week later the FIU letter arrived, and the file went to the Commission.

05 / Key facts

Key facts

01Who runs the check

Financial Intelligence Unit of Vanuatu

This state body checks sanctions, criminal records, reputation and connections of the applicant and every adult family member. The Commission set cannot be filed without its letter.

02Due diligence fee

DSP $5,000, CIIP fund $8,000 - per application

The fee is paid first, at filing, to the state vetting body against an invoice. It is one amount for the whole application, regardless of family size.

03Timing

Collecting documents 3-5 working days, check about a week

First we collect certified passport copies and certificates, then submit them for the check. The result arrives as an FIU letter.

04After the FIU letter

1 month to file the full set

From the letter date you have a month to file the full set with the Commission. It makes sense to prepare those documents while the check is running.

Common mistakes

Filing the Commission set before the FIU letter

Due diligence and the FIU letter come first, then the full set goes to the Commission within a month of the letter.

Hiding past visa or citizenship refusals

Disclose them upfront. The check looks into the applicant's history, and an explanation given early is better than a discrepancy the reviewers find themselves.

Sending an expired criminal record certificate

Check the date before sending. Every family member aged 18 and over needs one, and it must be valid at filing.
