What Replacing a lost Vanuatu passport means

If a Vanuatu passport or citizenship certificate is lost, stolen or damaged, citizenship is not lost. A new document is needed.

Before issuing a new passport the authority may verify identity. After a theft a police report comes first. A duplicate certificate follows the tariff in vatu; if the certificate is not to hand, it is restored from the registers.

We arrange the replacement remotely. If the authority requires a personal step, we say so before starting.

A simple example

A client's passport was stolen while travelling. With the police report and a copy we arranged a new passport remotely.

05 / Key facts

Key facts

01Citizenship after a loss

It is not lost

A lost, stolen or damaged passport does not end Vanuatu citizenship. You only need a new document.

02Stolen passport

A police report comes first

The holder gets a report from the police in the country where the theft happened. Replacement does not start without it.

03Check before issue

The authority may verify identity

Before a new passport is issued, the holder's identity is checked. Copies of the old passport and certificate speed this up.

04Citizenship certificate

A duplicate at the tariff in vatu

If the certificate is not to hand, it is restored from Vanuatu's registers. The holder pays the fee at the tariff in local currency.

Common mistakes

Not keeping copies of the passport and certificate.

Keep scans of the passport and certificate separately from the originals. They make replacement faster.

Writing to Vanuatu authorities directly.

We handle the replacement: we know which documents are needed and manage the correspondence.
