Residency by investment

Residency in Andorrafor an investor

Residency in a European country with income tax of up to 10%: the €600,000 investment stays your asset, and 90 days a year have to be spent in the country.

  • The conditions are checked against the Andorran immigration act
  • Working since 2004
  • We run the transaction, the deposit and the renewals of the status

01 / About the program

How Andorran passive residence works

Andorra issues a residence permit without the right to work — so-called passive residence. The applicant places €600,000 in assets of the principality and pays a returnable deposit to the Andorran Financial Authority. The status is issued for two years, is renewed and requires presence in the country of at least 90 days a year.

01

The investment stays yours

€600,000 is placed in property, shares in local companies, government bonds or Andorran banking instruments. These are assets, not a contribution: they remain your property.

02

A returnable deposit to the state

On top of the investment an interest-free deposit is paid to the Financial Authority: €50,000 for the applicant and €10,000 for each dependant. It is returned when the status ends.

03

90 days a year in the country

This is not a formality: presence is checked. Passive resident status assumes a real connection with the country, although it does not give the right to work in Andorra as an employee.

04

Taxes lower than in Europe

Income tax is up to 10%, and there is no inheritance or wealth tax. The benefit works when tax residency is moved: the previous one has to be closed properly.

02 / What you get

What Andorran residency gives you

Income tax of up to 10%

One of the mildest tax systems in Europe: a scale up to 10% and no inheritance, gift or wealth tax.

The investment stays an asset

Property, company shares or financial instruments in your ownership. The deposit with the Financial Authority is returned when the status ends.

A status for the whole family

A spouse, minor children and dependent parents receive residency on the same investment — only the size of the deposit changes.

Safety and quality of life

One of the lowest crime rates in Europe, a mountain setting, international schools and developed medicine.

Between Spain and France

Two hours to Barcelona, three to Toulouse. Andorra belongs neither to the EU nor to Schengen but is surrounded by them and lives in the euro area.

Renewal and a long horizon

The first status is issued for two years, then renewals of two and three years. After twenty years of residence the possibility of applying for citizenship opens up.

A preliminary assessment

Calculate the budget for your family

Set out who is applying with you. With the calculation you get the full Andorran budget: the investment, the deposit for each participant, the fees and the insurance, the timeline by stage and a plan of action.

03 / Why people apply

Why people arrange Andorran residency

Andorra is taken for the taxes and the quality of life in Europe, not for visa-free travel — it does not give Schengen. It is the choice of those ready genuinely to spend part of the year in the country.

A tax base in Europe

Up to 10% income tax with a European standard of living and banks. It works on a genuine move of residency.

Money in assets, not in a budget

The investment is placed in property or instruments of the principality and remains yours. The deposit to the state is returned.

Safety for the family

Minimal crime, a mountain climate, a compact country — for a family with children one of the main reasons to move.

Schools and sport

The Spanish, French and Andorran education systems, with ski infrastructure next to the house.

Close to Barcelona

Barcelona airport is two and a half hours’ drive away: the link with the world is kept without moving to a metropolis.

A long horizon

The status is renewed for years, and after twenty years of residence a path to citizenship of the principality appears.

04 / Travel

What residency gives you for travel

Andorra belongs neither to the European Union nor to the Schengen area. That is the key point: the status gives no visa-free entry to Europe.

Mode 01

Andorra without limits

Residence in the country for the whole time the status is in force. The compulsory minimum is 90 days a year, checked on renewal.

Mode 02

Schengen on a visa

Andorra can only be reached through Spain or France, so a Schengen visa is in practice always needed. The status does not replace it.

Mode 03

Work in the country

Passive residence gives no right to work in Andorra as an employee. For work a different type of permit is arranged.

Mode 04

The rest of the world on your own passport

You travel to third countries on your current passport of citizenship: that is what sets the visa regime, not the residence card.

Sources: the immigration act of the Principality of Andorra as in force. Andorra is not a member of the European Union and does not belong to the Schengen area. Entry rules are set by the receiving states and may change.

05 / The composition of the application

Who gets the status with you

Residency goes to everyone entered in the application. Open a row to see the conditions.

  • Over 18
  • No convictions, with certificates from the countries of citizenship and residence
  • A confirmed lawful source of funds
  • Medical insurance valid in Andorra
  • In a registered marriage
  • A further deposit is paid for each dependant
  • The children of the applicant or the spouse
  • Where custody is shared, the other parent’s consent is required
  • The parents of the applicant and the parents of the spouse
  • Financial dependency is confirmed by documents

06 / Cost

What Andorran residency costs

The threshold is fixed and placed in assets of the principality. The number of people in the application changes only the size of the returnable deposit with the Financial Authority.

On top of the investment an interest-free returnable deposit is paid to the Andorran Financial Authority: €50,000 for the main applicant and €10,000 for each dependant — it is returned when the status ends. The state fees, medical insurance and the support are also payable. The thresholds were revised in 2023: the budget is fixed as at the date of filing. This is a preliminary calculation, not a decision of a state authority.

10 / How it works

How the Andorran residency process works

STEP 1

The preliminary check

We go through the situation: citizenship, the family composition, the source of funds and the readiness to spend 90 days a year in the country. We calculate the budget before the first costs.

STEP 2

Choosing the form of investment

Property, company shares, bonds or banking instruments of the principality. The choice sets the costs of upkeep and the liquidity.

STEP 3

The bank account and the check on funds

We open an account with an Andorran bank. The principality’s banks check the source of funds thoroughly — we prepare for that stage in advance.

STEP 4

The transaction or the placement of funds

Buying the property or placing the funds in the chosen instruments. Proof of the placement is part of the document pack.

STEP 5

The deposit with the Financial Authority

An interest-free returnable deposit is paid: €50,000 for the applicant and €10,000 for each dependant. It is returned when the status ends.

STEP 6

Filing and the medical examination

We file the documents with the immigration service, take the medical examination in Andorra and give biometrics.

STEP 7

The residence card and the renewals

The status is issued for two years, then renewals of two and three years. At each renewal the investment, the insurance and the presence in the country are checked.

A step-by-step plan of the process

The same seven steps as a document: what is prepared at each stage, which documents are needed, how long each step takes and when a visit is required.

11 / Our role

Why people arrange Andorran residency with us

Andorra is a small jurisdiction with very thorough banks. Refusals here more often come down to the account and the source of funds than to the application itself.

01

We prepare the source of funds for the local banks

Andorran compliance is stricter than European. We assemble the chain of the capital’s origin before the account is opened, not when the bank asks.

02

We choose the form of investment

Property requires upkeep, financial instruments do not. We work out both options taking liquidity and taxes into account.

03

We work out the tax move

The rate of up to 10% works when residency is moved. We close the previous residency properly, together with a tax adviser.

04

We run the renewals

Every two or three years the investment, the insurance and the presence are checked. We keep that calendar and the documents.

17 / Questions

Answers to common questions

€600,000 in Andorran assets: property, shares in local companies, government bonds or instruments of Andorran banks. The threshold can be covered by a combination of assets. On top of that a returnable deposit is paid to the Financial Authority — €50,000 for the applicant and €10,000 for each dependant.

Yes. The deposit with the Financial Authority is interest-free and is returned when the status ends. The investment in assets itself remains your property for the whole time the residency is in force.

At least 90 days a year. That condition really is checked on renewal of the status, so the programme does not suit those counting on never appearing in the country.

No. Passive residence gives no right to work in Andorra as an employee. For work or active business a different type of permit is arranged — we go through that separately.

No. Andorra belongs neither to the European Union nor to the Schengen area. What is more, the principality can only be reached through Spain or France, so a Schengen visa is needed in practice almost always.

Income tax is up to 10%, there is no inheritance, gift or wealth tax and VAT is one of the lowest in Europe. The benefit works when tax residency is moved: the previous one has to be closed properly, otherwise there will be no saving.

A spouse by registered marriage, minor children and dependent parents. For each dependant a further returnable deposit is paid.

2-4 months from filing to receiving the card. Most of the time goes on opening the account and the Andorran bank’s check on the source of funds.

That the investment is kept, that the medical insurance is in force and that you were present in the country for at least 90 days a year. The first status is issued for two years, then renewals of two and three years.

The path is very long: Andorran citizenship is possible after twenty years of residence, with examinations and giving up your former citizenship — the principality does not allow a second one. In practice this status is taken for the taxes and the life, not for the passport.
