02 / In plain words

What Power of attorney for Cyprus means

A power of attorney is a document by which the client authorises another person to act on their behalf. Cyprus PR usually needs two: one for the lawyer (tax number, purchase, Department of Lands and Surveys, Cap. 109 permit) and one for the representative at the Migration Department on the gov.cy Authorisation of Representative form.

There are three ways to sign. In Cyprus, before a certifying officer, from €5 for a document of up to 2 pages. Abroad, at a Cyprus consulate by appointment (for example Berlin €8.54, London £9 per signature) or before a notary at home with an apostille and a translation into Greek or English.

The DLS charges €50 for a general power of attorney; a special one is free. The other parent's consent for a child to live in Cyprus is a separate document and can only be signed before a Cyprus consul.

A simple example

A client lives in Germany. We draft two powers of attorney and he signs them at the Cyprus consulate in Berlin (€8.54 per signature). The lawyer gets the tax number and deposits the contract, and the representative files the PR application without the client travelling.

02In Cyprus

from €5

A certifying officer appointed by the Ministry of Interior certifies the signature: €5 up to 2 pages, €10 up to 10 pages.

A Cyprus consulate by appointment (Berlin €8.54, London £9) or a notary with a home-country apostille and translation.

04Other parent's consent

Common mistakes

Delaying the power of attorney

Without it the lawyer cannot get the tax number or deposit the contract. We sign it in the first weeks.

Signing before a notary without an apostille

A foreign power of attorney without an apostille is not accepted in Cyprus. The notary's country applies it.

Not booking the consulate early

A consular appointment can take weeks. We draft the text and book straight away.
