Path

Limassol, London

Limassol, London. First the international unit of a Cypriot bank, then a payment company, now BRIDGES clients’ accounts and transfers.

  1. 1983Limassol

Born in Limassol. His father ran a small travel company, and from childhood Nikos helped count the takings in different currencies.

  2. 2001-2006London

Banking and finance in London. An internship in international payments, where he first saw how a transfer gets stuck.

  3. 2006-2015Limassol

Nine years in the international unit of a Cypriot bank: Russian-speaking clients, companies, large transfers. He lived through the 2013 crisis from the inside and learned Russian from clients.

  4. 2015-2019Limassol

Head of compliance at a payment company. Every day he saw why correspondent banks hold payments and which documents release them.

  5. 2019BRIDGES

Joined BRIDGES to run the banking side of matters: accounts for programmes, investment and tax transfers, unblocking payments.

Approach to cases

Six rules that do not depend on the country

Six rules Nikos applies to accounts and payments.

  1. 01A payment is prepared before it is sent

Contract, source of funds, payment reference. If the papers are ready in advance, the bank does not hold the transfer.

  2. 02The bank is silent - we call

We do not wait on a stuck payment. We find out the same day which bank it is sitting at and which document is needed.

  3. 03The programme deadline comes first

If the deadline is days away, we assemble the pack for the correspondent bank in hours, not weeks.

  4. 04An account that fits the client’s story

Not every bank will take every client. We choose a bank that understands the client’s passport, business and money.

  5. 05A document for every day

Tax residence and day audits rest on tickets, statements and bills. We help gather them from the start, not for the audit.

  6. 06Only legal routes

No grey workarounds. Only transparent transfers that stand up to any question from a bank.

Beyond work

The sea, fishing and a big Greek family

At BRIDGES I handle the moment when money must arrive and the bank is silent. I love the short message from a client, “the money is in”, after three days when it seemed everything was lost.

I was born and live in Limassol with my wife and three children, two streets from my parents’ house. On Sundays the whole family gathers at one table, and the arguments about football are louder than about politics.

Early in the morning I go fishing at sea with my father, and in the evenings I play basketball with childhood friends. I teach my children the Russian I learned from clients.

How We Unblocked a Frozen 1 Million Euro Payment from UBS for a Malta Project in 5 Days

Malta · citizenship by merit

A million euros stuck in one of the best banks in the world

Vladimir’s money was at UBS, and that is exactly why it was hard to move: the bank held a one-million-euro transfer because of her passport, and the Central Bank of Malta asked for ten years of capital history. Five days were left before the deadline.

We assembled ten years of capital history in two days, and I accompanied the payment at every stage: the sending bank, the correspondent, the receiving bank.

Outcome: Payment made in five days, the matter’s deadlines saved

How Malta's Fixed GRP Tax was Paid from a Dubai Account Bypassing Sanctions

Malta · tax status

15 thousand euros the bank simply held

Dmitry from Moscow wanted to pay his GRP flat tax on time from an account in Dubai. The bank held the payment and stayed silent, with days left before the deadline.

We prepared a UAE tax residence certificate and a source-of-funds pack for the correspondent bank. The payment was released within a few days, before the deadline.

Outcome: Tax credited on time, GRP status renewed

How an Investor Passed Malta's Annual Tax Audit Under the 183-Day Rule

Malta · tax status

Proving where you were with tickets and statements

Roman, a venture investor, lives on planes. When the Maltese tax office opened a 183-day audit, it turned out he had nothing to prove his movements with.

We rebuilt every day: tickets, boarding passes, card statements, hotel bills, geolocation. Bank statements became the main evidence, and the audit was closed in six weeks.

Outcome: Tax residence confirmed, the 15% rate kept
