Born in Bratislava to a Slovak father and a mother from Saint Petersburg. He learned Hungarian from his grandmother, Russian from his mother, and arguing from both.
Faculty of law in Bratislava, then a master’s in international law in London. Thesis on protecting foreigners’ rights in administrative disputes.
Eight years in international arbitration and litigation. He learned the main thing: not the loudest side wins, but the one with better documents.
A law firm in Malta: appeals against residence and citizenship refusals, restoring cancelled statuses, correspondence with the tax commissioner and the immigration police.
Joined BRIDGES as senior international lawyer. Together with Anna Kovalevskaya he prepares the position in matters where the usual route is closed.

Approach to cases
Six rules Daniel applies to complex matters.
With a cancellation or refusal we first stop the consequences: removal, blocking, deadlines. Then we fix the cause.
Every submission to an authority is a document with the rule, the facts and the evidence. Verbal agreements do not work.
An official is not an enemy. A calm, precise, polite text achieves more than threats of court.
If the client missed a deadline for a good reason, it is confirmed by documents, not words.
Merit, cultural contribution, special circumstances. The law is often wider than it seems if read in full.
If a matter is a losing one, we say so before starting. The client pays for a real chance, not for hope.

Beyond work
At BRIDGES the matters that come to me are those where the usual route is already closed. I love letters that begin with “the decision has been reviewed”: behind them are months of calm work and one precise position.
I am from Bratislava, lived in London, Frankfurt and Malta, and now live in Budapest with my wife and three children. We speak four languages at home and argue in all of them at once.
At weekends I cycle along the Danube to Esztergom and back. I love old courthouses, collect books on the history of law and teach my children chess.

Malta · tax status
Vadim was on a long deal in Latin America and missed the date for paying his flat tax. His GRP certificate was cancelled automatically, and a notice went to the immigration police.
We prepared a force majeure submission to the Commissioner for Revenue: documents on the trip, correspondence, payment on the first day after his return. The commissioner accepted the position.
Outcome: GRP status restored, the matter closed
Malta · tax status
Semyon Mikhailovich kept large accounts in Swiss banks for years. Automatic data exchange with his former country made them transparent, and the banks did not accept his Caribbean residence as a ground.
We built a real Maltese resident status backed by facts: a home, days, a centre of interests. The banks accepted it, and the reporting lawfully moved to where he now lives.
Outcome: Reporting goes to Malta, the status withstands bank compliance
Malta · citizenship by merit
Elena has spent her life in film and did not want to buy a passport. Her question was different: how to explain to the state what a contribution to culture is.
We set out her merit under the official cultural excellence track: a co-production and a film festival in Malta, partners’ letters, publications. I wrote the position so the merit reads without explanation.
