01 / About the program

How the Digital Nomad Visa works

The scheme was introduced by a decision of the Council of Ministers in October 2021. At first the cap was a hundred permits; in the spring of 2022 it was raised to five hundred — the number of places is limited, and that is the main feature of the programme.

01

The income is counted net

The requirement is €3,500 a month after contributions and taxes. It is evidenced by payment documents and statements for the last six months.

02

A permit for a year, an extension for two

The first permit is issued for a year. On extension it is granted for a maximum of two years: up to three years in total under the scheme.

03

Work only for foreign clients

The applicant signs an undertaking that neither they nor their family members will provide services to employers or clients established in Cyprus.

04

A limited number of places

The cap of the scheme is 500 permits. That sets Cyprus apart from the Spanish and Portuguese programmes, where the number is not limited.

02 / What you get

What the status gives you

Life in Cyprus

The right to live in the country for the whole term of the permit. English is widely used in daily life, in documents and in schools.

The family for the same term

A spouse or partner and children receive a permit of the same length. They may not work in Cyprus.

The work does not change

Both employment with a foreign company and self-employment with clients abroad qualify.

Tax residency at 183 days

Living in the country for more than 183 days in a tax year makes you a Cypriot tax resident, unless you are a resident of another country.

Three years on one scheme

A year and an extension of two give a clear horizon for planning for the family and the children’s schooling.

A mild climate and the sea

Limassol, Paphos and Larnaca — developed infrastructure, international schools and direct flights around Europe and the Middle East.

03 / Why people apply

Why people arrange the Cypriot nomad visa

Cyprus is chosen for its English-speaking environment, its business infrastructure and tax rules that are known in advance.

English in everyday use

Documents, schools and services work in English — the move does not require learning a new language from scratch.

Clear tax rules

The 183-day threshold and the conditions of tax residency are set out in the description of the scheme rather than inferred from practice.

The family alongside

A spouse or partner and children receive the status with you for the same term.

A business environment

The banks, the auditors and the lawyers are used to working with foreign income and structures.

Mediterranean living

The sea, safety and a high level of medicine at costs below Western Europe.

A limited quota — apply early

Five hundred permits is a finite resource. The sooner the documents are ready, the better the chance of getting into the quota.

04 / Travel

Where you can travel on the Cypriot status

The permit gives the right to live in Cyprus. The republic is in the European Union but does not yet belong to the Schengen area — trips to Schengen are planned separately.

Mode 01

Cyprus without limits

Residence, entry and exit for the whole term of the permit.

Mode 02

Schengen under the general rules

Cyprus is not in the Schengen area: for trips there the ordinary visa rules of your citizenship apply.

Mode 03

Work only for foreign clients

The undertaking not to work for employers and clients in Cyprus is signed by the applicant and the family members alike.

Mode 04

The rest of the world on your own passport

You travel to third countries on your passport of citizenship: that is what sets the visa regime.

The thresholds are given under the description of the scheme and the Migration Department lists (the version of 19 March 2025). On top of the income come the state fees, the insurance, the medical examinations, the housing and the support. This is a preliminary calculation, not a decision of a state authority.

10 / How it works

How the process works

STEP 1

Checking the employment and the income

We go through where the employer or the clients are registered and whether the net income of €3,500 a month is evidenced by six months of statements.

STEP 2

The documents and the examinations

We prepare the police clearance certificate, the blood tests and the chest X-ray, the Plan A insurance and proof of housing.

STEP 3

Entry into Cyprus

The applicant enters on a tourist visa where one is required, or files the application while already in the country lawfully.

STEP 4

Filing in Nicosia

Within three months of entry the application is filed with the Civil Registry and Migration Department, and the biometrics and the signature are taken.

STEP 5

A permit for a year

After approval a permit is issued for a year. The family receives the status for the same term.

STEP 6

The extension for two years

The extension application is filed at least a month before expiry. We run both the extension and the tax question.

11 / Our role

Why people arrange the Cypriot nomad visa with us

The scheme is limited in the number of places, and the list of documents includes medical examinations and undertakings — everything has to be assembled first time.

01

We calculate the net income

The requirement is the sum after contributions and taxes. If the payment documents do not show the net figure we prepare a written confirmation in the department’s form.

02

We prepare the medical part

The blood tests, the X-ray and the Plan A insurance have to be arranged exactly as the department requires, or the application is returned.

03

We check the housing

A lease above €5,000 is subject to stamp duty. That is a frequent reason for documents not being accepted.

04

We keep the deadlines

Three months to file after entry and a month before expiry for the extension are hard limits. We keep the calendar of the application.

No. Cyprus is a member of the European Union but not of the Schengen area: trips to Schengen countries follow the ordinary visa rules of your citizenship.

With the Civil Registry and Migration Department in Nicosia, within three months of entry. At the filing the biometrics are taken: a photograph, fingerprints and a signature.

The description of the scheme contains no restrictions on citizenship. The practical difficulty is evidencing the net income and the bank receipts; we go through that part before filing.
