Client's Story
Where they started
Our client possessed substantial and completely legitimate wealth, whose foundation was laid in the 1990s - during the era of privatization and early major business ventures. The money had been working and growing for years, but its roots reached back decades. The task seemed straightforward - to secure Cyprus permanent residency - but ran into a specific issue.
Why the standard route did not work
Modern compliance requires proving not only source of funds (where the specific money for the transaction came from), but also source of wealth - how the person's overall fortune originated. While this is straightforward for recently earned capital, money from the 1990s requires archaeological work: documents from that period are scattered, some lost, some in archives, and the formats and realities of that era are long gone.
What BRIDGES had to solve
The difficulty was not in the legitimacy of the funds - they were clean - but in reconstructing and proving their history after so many years in a language understandable to today's compliance standards. Simply saying "I earned this in the 1990s from business" is insufficient; documentation is needed that traces the capital's path from those years to today.
Why a standard answer would not do
The client approached BRIDGES understanding that the task was not to "show the money" - it exists and is clean - but to conduct a proper reconstruction of wealth origins: uncover archives, privatization and business documents from that era, tax history, and connect everything into a complete picture that would satisfy Cypriot compliance.
My money is legitimate, but the foundation of my wealth was laid back in the 1990s - and try to prove after thirty years where it came from. Documents from that era are scattered, some in archives. Sergey didn't brush it off; he conducted a proper reconstruction: uncovered privatization documents, business records from that period, tax records, and connected everything into one narrative - from the 1990s to today. Compliance accepted it. Permanent residency was secured. Without him, I wouldn't have been able to undertake this archaeological work.
