Preliminary information is not tax advice. The number of places in the scheme is capped.
01 / The essentials first
What to know about the scheme before you file
Four things that set the Cypriot scheme apart from its European counterparts.
- The income is counted net
The requirement is €3,500 a month after tax, not before. That sets Cyprus apart from most nomad programmes.
- The number of places is capped
The scheme is built for 500 permits. Once the quota is used up, applications are suspended.
- A year, then two
The first permit is issued for 1 year and renewed for 2 years while the conditions hold.
- The family comes, but may not work
A spouse and minor children take the status with the applicant, but on this ground the spouse may not work in Cyprus.
02 / Income
What income your family needs
Set out the family: the threshold is counted net, with a percentage added for every member.
03 / Two forms
Employment or freelancing
The threshold is the same; the documents and the way the income is evidenced differ.
The values were checked against the official material on 12.08.2026. Only the rows for which there is no official wording are marked separately.

05 / The order of work
How the process runs
Most of the procedure takes place on the island, so the question of entry is settled in advance.
- The income is checked
We work out the net income after tax — that is what is set against the threshold.
- The documents
Contracts, statements, insurance, a certificate of no criminal record, proof of employment outside Cyprus.
- Entry and filing
The application is filed with the Cypriot migration service; in some cases an entry visa is needed first.
- Biometrics
The biometric data are given and the fees paid.
- The permit is issued
A card for 1 year. The whole process takes 2-3 months.
- Renewal
Renewed for 2 years while the income, the insurance and the nature of the work hold.
07 / The check
What is examined in the application
The net income, the foreign source of the work, the insurance and the housing.
- The net income
The sum after tax is evidenced: employer certificates, statements, tax documents.
- Employment abroad
The employer or the clients have to be outside Cyprus — that is checked against the contracts.
- Insurance
A medical policy for the whole of the stay, for the applicant and the family.
- No criminal record, and housing
An apostilled certificate and proof of where you will live on the island.
The difference between gross and net income is a common reason for refusal: the sum to count is the one after tax.
08 / The limits
What to take into account in advance
Five limits that bear on the filing, on the family and on tax.
The quota limits it500 permits
Applications are suspended once the places are used up — better to file without delay.
The spouse does not workOn this ground
A separate status is needed for the spouse to take a job.

Tax residenceAfter 183 days
There is also a 60-day rule in certain conditions — the regime is worked out before the move.
Cyprus is not in the Schengen areaTravel is on visas
The status gives residence on the island but no freedom of movement in the Schengen area.
09 / Your team
Who runs your case
The work is led by specialists who deal with the Cypriot migration service.
