Client's Story
Where they started
The client chose Italy deliberately: the investment residence permit here is structured on a clear model—first approval, then investment—grants residence status without language requirements and without minimum residence obligations, and later opens the path to permanent residence and citizenship. He had capital and a plan ready.
Why the standard route did not work
The only factor requiring careful attention was family composition. Including the spouse was straightforward, but the son had just reached the age where he transitioned to the "adult" category. However, he remained a student and was entirely financially dependent on his parents—meaning he was factually a dependent despite being an adult by passport.
What BRIDGES had to solve
For family reunification in Italy, an adult child may be included if it is proven that he is financially dependent on his parents—for example, if he is studying and has no independent income. This is not an automatic right, as it is for minor children, but a condition that must be documented.
Why a standard answer would not do
The client came to BRIDGES to ensure his son was not excluded from the application: to properly gather dependence documentation and secure status for the entire family in one process, rather than leaving the adult child out.
I was obtaining an investment residence permit for Italy and strongly did not want my eldest son to be left without status simply because he had already turned eighteen. He is a student and lives on our money. Igor explained that an adult child could be included if dependence is proven, and helped us gather everything correctly—his studies, absence of independent income, our financial support. As a result, all three of us received residence permits. My son studies in Europe with secure status, and this was most important to me.
