Visa-free countries for the Argentine passport: the full 2026 list

Contents
According to the BRIDGES index, the Argentine passport opens 168 destinations without a consular visa: 128 visa-free, 30 with a visa at the border and 10 with an electronic authorisation. They include the whole Schengen area for 90 days in any 180, the UK with an ETA for up to six months, Japan, Hong Kong and all of Latin America. 58 destinations require a visa in advance, including the US and Canada. Below is the full list of countries by entry regime with permitted stays, plus practical travel rules. The terms, cost and procedure of the programme are on the page of the Argentine citizenship programme.
Visa-free countries for the Argentine passport at a glance
In short: the Argentine passport opens 168 destinations without a consular visa. The main ones are Schengen, the UK, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South Africa and Latin America. A visa is needed for the US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and a number of countries in Africa and Asia.
The list of visa-free countries keeps changing: countries introduce electronic authorisations and abolish or introduce visas on a reciprocal basis. That is why BRIDGES uses one figure across the whole site, taken from the BRIDGES passport index with a check date, and maintains reference data on entry regimes for 226 states and territories. The data was checked on 4 October 2026 and is reproduced in full in this article.
Before you travel, confirm the rules for your departure date. The permitted stay is set by the country of entry, and a border officer may shorten it or refuse entry. If the trip involves work, study or long-term residence, visa-free entry is not suitable, and you need a visa or a residence permit.
Why sources give different numbers
In short: rankings count territories and electronic visas differently, so the numbers in articles diverge. The BRIDGES passport index counts 226 destinations: states and dependent territories, each with its own entry regime.
According to the BRIDGES index as of 4 October 2026, the Argentine passport opens 168 destinations without a visa obtained in advance: 128 visa-free, 10 with an electronic authorisation and 30 with a visa at the border. An e-visa is required for 32 destinations and a consular visa for 26. Passports can only meaningfully be compared using figures from the same index.
Why the BRIDGES index is more precise: it counts 226 destinations including territories, shows the eTA electronic authorisation separately from a visa at the border, and checks disputed pairs against the websites of the countries of entry. Every figure has a check date. More in the index methodology.
| Entry regime | BRIDGES index |
|---|---|
| Visa-free | 128 |
| Electronic authorisation | 10 |
| Visa at the border | 30 |
| E-visa | 32 |
| Visa in advance | 26 |
The full list below is compiled from the BRIDGES reference data: it has a line for every state and territory, including Aruba, Bermuda and the British Virgin Islands, and e-visas are grouped with electronic authorisations because both are obtained online.
Europe
In short: the whole Schengen area is open for 90 days in any 180-day period. The UK requires an ETA electronic authorisation for up to six months, while Ireland, the Balkans, Cyprus and Belarus are visa-free and Russia requires an electronic authorisation.
The 90/180 rule applies to the Schengen area as a whole: days in all the countries of the zone are added up. EU countries outside Schengen, with their own rules, and European countries outside the EU, namely the UK, Albania, Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia, are counted separately. An Argentine citizen can, for example, spend 90 days in Schengen, then some time in the UK or the Balkans, and return to Schengen when a new window opens.
The UK requires an ETA electronic authorisation: it is obtained online, is valid for several years and allows stays of up to six months per visit. The EU is introducing a similar system, ETIAS, for visa-exempt travellers; as of October 2026 its launch date has not been announced. How the Argentine passport helps with residence in Europe is explained in the article the Argentine passport and Europe.
An Argentine citizen enters the UK and South Korea with an electronic authorisation obtained online before the trip.
Countries' entry rules, BRIDGES check as of October 2026
For a Russian citizen the difference from the Russian passport is greatest in Europe: Schengen and the UK no longer require a visa. In Asia the difference is smaller but noticeable in Hong Kong and Japan. This is the practical value of the passport for a family that travels on business and sends its children to study abroad.
Asia and the Middle East
In short: Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines and the UAE are open visa-free. South Korea and Israel require an electronic authorisation, while India and Vietnam require an e-visa and Sri Lanka an electronic authorisation.
Japan admits Argentine citizens visa-free for 90 days, and so does Hong Kong. South Korea requires a K-ETA and Israel an ETA-IL, and both allow up to 90 days. India, Vietnam and Pakistan require an e-visa, which is obtained online, Sri Lanka requires an electronic authorisation, and Oman admits Argentines visa-free for 14 days. Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, the Maldives, Jordan and Lebanon issue a visa at the border.

A visa in advance is needed for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Brunei, Turkmenistan, Taiwan and North Korea. This matters for business trips to the Gulf: the UAE is open visa-free, while for Saudi Arabia and Kuwait the visa is arranged before the trip.
Latin America and the Caribbean
In short: every country in Latin America is open to an Argentine citizen, who enters the MERCOSUR countries on a DNI identity card. Mexico allows up to six months, and the Caribbean islands from 30 days to six months.
An Argentine citizen enters Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Bolivia, Peru and Ecuador on a DNI, with no passport needed. Colombia, Venezuela, the countries of Central America and Mexico are open visa-free. Cuba requires an electronic tourist card. In the Caribbean most islands admit Argentines visa-free: the Bahamas and Haiti for three months, Barbados for 90 days, Jamaica for 30 days and Bermuda for six months.
Here the Argentine passport gives more than travel. Under the MERCOSUR Residence Agreement, a citizen of the country has the right to live and work in the countries party to the agreement. More in the article Latin American citizenship by investment.
China, Central Asia and the Caucasus
In short: China admits Argentine citizens visa-free for 30 days, Georgia for a year, Armenia for 180 days, and Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan for 30 days. Mongolia is open for 90 days.
For families from Russia and the CIS these destinations matter for a different reason: relatives live here, companies operate here and business meetings take place here. On an Argentine passport China is open for 30 days without a visa and Macao for 90 days. Taiwan requires a visa in advance. Georgia allows Argentine citizens to stay for up to a year and Armenia for up to 180 days, which is convenient for longer periods of work in the region.
A Russian citizen can also travel to these countries on a Russian passport: the regimes for Russia in Central Asia and the Caucasus are relaxed. Which passport to show at the border here depends on which document the person lives and pays taxes under, and on where it is easier to explain the purpose of the trip.
The US and Canada
In short: the US requires a B1/B2 visa, and Canada an eTA electronic authorisation if you hold a US visa. Argentina's return to the US Visa Waiver Program began in 2025, but has no date.
Argentina left the US Visa Waiver Program in 2002. On 28 July 2025 the two governments signed a statement on its return, but no decision has been taken. Argentine citizens are issued a multiple-entry B1/B2 visa valid for up to 10 years. With a valid US or Canadian visa, they enter Canada with an eTA; without one, a Canadian visa is needed. Africa and Oceania
In short: South Africa, Morocco, Botswana and Tunisia are open visa-free, and Kenya with an electronic authorisation. In Oceania, Fiji and Vanuatu are open visa-free, New Zealand with an NZeTA and Australia with an e-visa.
In Africa the Argentine passport opens the main tourist and business destinations in the south and north of the continent. Egypt, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda and Zimbabwe issue a visa at the border. Nigeria, Uganda, Côte d'Ivoire and a number of other countries issue e-visas. Algeria, Ghana, Mali, Niger and Sudan require a visa in advance.
In Oceania, New Zealand admits Argentines with an NZeTA electronic authorisation for three months, and Australia with an e-visa. Samoa, Palau, the Marshall Islands and the Solomon Islands issue a visa at the border.

BRIDGES reference data on the Argentine passport, 4 October 2026
The regional view shows that the Argentine passport covers Europe and Latin America completely, works well in Asia and is weakest in North America. For a family that needs visa-free entry to the US, the Argentine passport has to be complemented by a US visa or a passport from a Visa Waiver Program country.

Rules for travelling on an Argentine passport
In short: the passport must be valid for the whole trip, and for many countries for a further six months. A border officer may ask for a return ticket, an accommodation booking and proof of funds for the trip. The total contribution or bond for your family is shown in the Argentina programme estimate.
- Passport validity. Many countries require the passport to be valid for six months after entry or after exit. Renew the passport in advance.
- Purpose of the trip. Visa-free entry allows tourism and business meetings. Work, and study longer than short courses, require a visa or a permit.
- Documents at the border. A return ticket, an accommodation booking, insurance and proof of funds are the border officer's standard questions.
- Children. A child travelling with one parent must have the other parent's consent.
- Two passports. A citizen enters Argentina on Argentine documents. They enter the country of their first citizenship on its passport, if its law requires this.
How to count 90 days in any 180 in Schengen
In short: on any day of your stay in Schengen, the previous 180 days are looked at: the total number of days in the zone must not exceed 90. The days of entry and exit count in full.
The rule is rolling. The border officer takes the current date, counts back 180 days and adds up all the days spent in Schengen countries during that period. If the total exceeds 90, it is a violation, even if the person has never spent 90 consecutive days in the zone. The violation is recorded in the EU information system and affects future entries.

An example. An entrepreneur spent 60 days in Schengen from January to March, then left for the UK and Argentina. In June he wants to return for 45 days. The border officer will count the days in the 180 days before each date of the stay: some of the winter days will still fall within the window, and the permitted balance may turn out to be less than 45. That is why long trips to Europe are planned with the EU calculator, not from memory. EU countries outside Schengen and the UK are counted separately and do not form part of these 90 days.
Transit and connections
In short: transit through the US requires a visa even without leaving the airport. Transit through Schengen and most Asian countries requires no visa for an Argentine citizen.
Transit rules are often forgotten when buying tickets. The US makes no exception for transit: a passenger with an Argentine passport connecting at a US airport must have a visa. For transit through the UK, an Argentine citizen obtains an ETA just as for entry. In Schengen and the Gulf states an Argentine citizen transits without a visa. Before buying tickets with a connection, check the rules for each transit country.
What may change in the coming years
In short: three processes affect the list: the launch of ETIAS in the EU, Argentina's possible return to the US Visa Waiver Program and new electronic authorisations in Asia.
The EU will launch ETIAS for all visa-exempt travellers, and Argentine citizens will have to fill in an online form before travelling. If Argentina rejoins the US Visa Waiver Program, an ESTA will be enough instead of a B1/B2 visa. A number of countries in Asia and Africa are moving from visas at the border to e-visas: formally the regime changes, but in practice the authorisation is obtained online. BRIDGES updates its reference data with every such change and states the check date.
What this means for Russian citizens
In short: a Russian citizen with an Argentine passport travels on it to third countries without visas and enters Russia on a Russian passport. Schengen, the UK and Japan become accessible without visa centres.
For a Russian citizen the Argentine passport removes visa issues in countries where getting a visa on a Russian passport has become slow and unpredictable. A trip to Europe can be planned without booking a visa centre appointment, and business meetings in London with an electronic authorisation. The citizen enters and leaves Russia on a Russian passport, and notifies the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the second citizenship within 60 days.
What citizenship costs and what it offers beyond travel is covered in the articles the cost of Argentine citizenship and what Argentine citizenship gives you. The programme terms are on the Argentine citizenship programme page.
Where Argentina itself is on the map and how to fly there is explained in the article where Argentina is. What we do and what is left to you is shown on the page Argentine passport by investment.
