01 / About the program

How the Saint Kitts and Nevis programme works

Saint Kitts and Nevis launched citizenship by investment in 1984 — earlier than anyone in the world. The programme is run by the Citizenship by Investment Unit, which since 31 July 2024 has been a separate legal entity with its own board of governors and a unit for continuous international screening. Four investment options, the decision is taken by the state, and filing is only through a licensed agent.

01

A contribution or property — different logic for the money

The contribution to the state fund (SISC) from $250,000 is non-refundable, but it is the shortest and most predictable route. A share in an approved developer project from $325,000 costs more, but the property stays your asset and can be sold no earlier than seven years later.

02

The contribution covers a family of up to four

The main applicant and up to three dependants are covered by the base contribution of $250,000 — there is no surcharge for them. From the fifth person each dependant aged 18 and over adds $50,000 and each child under 18 adds $25,000. The programme sets no limit on the number of dependants.

03

The money is paid after approval

The investment is paid after the approval-in-principle letter, not on filing. Until then only the due diligence and the mandatory fees are paid. First the state checks the applicant — and only then does the main money move.

04

Who the programme is currently closed to

Since 2023 the programme does not accept applications from citizens of Russia and Belarus. The practice for other citizenships has changed and continues to change, so we confirm availability for your passport in writing with a licensed agent before any documents are prepared and before any costs are incurred.

02 / What you get

What the Saint Kitts and Nevis passport gives you

Schengen and the United Kingdom without a visa

The passport gives visa-free entry to around 155 destinations, including the Schengen area for 90 days out of 180 and the United Kingdom with an ETA electronic authorisation. We set out the risks on this point separately and before the contract, not after.

A recoverable option through property

The only format among the fast Caribbean programmes where the money does not disappear: a share in an approved project from $325,000 stays your asset. A sale is possible after seven years, as an ordinary market transaction.

A tax-free jurisdiction

The Federation has no personal income tax, no inheritance tax and no gift tax. Citizenship on its own does not make you a tax resident: residency is determined separately and under the law of particular countries.

Citizenship for the whole family and by descent

A spouse, children up to 30, adult children with disabilities and parents aged 55 and over are included in one application. Children born after the status is granted are registered by descent — with no new investment.

A biometric passport for 10 years

From 14 April 2026 the Federation issues only biometric passports of the new type, valid for 10 years. Renewal does not require a further investment.

Dual citizenship is permitted

You do not have to give up your current passport, and you do not have to live in the country to keep the status. It is worth checking separately how the law of your current country of citizenship treats a second citizenship.

A preliminary assessment

03 / Why people apply

Why people obtain the Saint Kitts and Nevis passport

Saint Kitts is not chosen for speed — there are faster programmes. It is chosen where the reputation of the document and European destinations matter: it is the oldest programme in the world, and unlike Vanuatu its passport works today with Schengen and the United Kingdom.

European destinations without a visa

Schengen for 90 days out of 180 and the United Kingdom with an ETA — the main reason people choose Saint Kitts rather than the faster programmes of Oceania. We go through the EU position on the Caribbean programmes before the contract is signed.

When the money has to stay money

The property option from $325,000 turns an expense into an asset: after seven years the property can be sold, including to the next participant in the programme. The state does not buy it back and does not guarantee the price — it is an ordinary market.

A large family in one application

The base contribution covers up to four people, and there is no limit on the number of dependants. From five people we calculate both options: the contribution grows with each person, the cost of the property does not.

Companies and bank accounts

A second passport widens the range of jurisdictions and banks willing to consider an application. It does not remove compliance and does not hide the first citizenship: banks assess documents obtained through investment programmes separately.

Dependants up to the age of 30

Adult children can be included up to the age of 30 where financial dependency is confirmed. That is noticeably wider than most programmes, where the limit is 25 and full-time study.

A plan B tested for 40 years

The programme has run since 1984 and survived several waves of tightening. For a decision taken once in a generation, the age and stability of the programme are an argument in themselves.

04 / No limit

Dependants in one application

The number of dependants is not limited: however many you enter, that many go through with you, and the passports are issued at the same time. Open a row — the conditions for that category are there.

  • Over 18
  • No criminal record
  • A confirmed lawful source of funds and origin of capital
  • The programme does not accept applications from citizens of Russia and Belarus
  • A registered marriage
  • The law of the Federation recognises a partner of the opposite sex as a spouse
  • Included in the same application as the main applicant
  • Included together with the parents
  • Including children from previous marriages
  • From the age of 16 they go through due diligence and provide a police clearance certificate
  • Financially dependent on the main applicant
  • The full-time study requirement has been removed — financial dependency itself is confirmed
  • The application is filed before the child turns 30
  • The parents of the main applicant and the parents of the spouse
  • Live with the applicant and are fully supported by them
  • Children aged 18 and over with confirmed physical or mental disabilities
  • There is no age limit for this category
  • Brothers and sisters are not included in the application

05 / Cost

The investment threshold does not depend on the number of applicants — only the fees grow with the composition. So for a large family the gap with the contribution narrows. A preliminary calculation based on the official schedule of fees of the Citizenship by Investment Unit and the BRIDGES personal budget, verified on 09.08.2026. Children under 18 are counted as under 16: from the age of 16 due diligence of $7,500 and the bank fee are added. The biometrics fee introduced in 2026 has not been published officially and is not included. The BRIDGES fee, apostilles, translations and medical certificates are calculated separately. The calculation is not a decision of a state authority.

09 / How it works

How the Saint Kitts and Nevis citizenship process works

STEP 1

The preliminary assessment

We check the citizenship, the family composition and the applicant’s biography. The programme does not accept applications from certain citizenships, so we confirm availability before any costs. No documents are needed at this stage.

STEP 2

Choosing the option and the calculation

We compare the four options: the SISC contribution, the Public Benefit Option, a share in a developer project from $325,000 and a private house from $600,000. We calculate the full structure of state payments for your family and fix the total in the agreement.

STEP 3

Preparing the file

We collect the documents and the proof of the source of funds and arrange the translations, apostilles and medical certificates. The application is filed only through a licensed agent from the official list — the CIU does not accept documents directly.

STEP 4

Screening and the interview

Due diligence is carried out on the main applicant and on everyone aged 16 and over included in the application. An interview with an independent screening company is mandatory for the main applicant; the CIU may call dependants aged 16 and over at its discretion.

STEP 5

Approval and the investment

The CIU considers the file for 120-180 days and, on a positive decision, issues an approval-in-principle letter. Only then is the contribution made or the property transaction completed — the main programme money is not paid before approval.

STEP 6

Biometrics and the passport

The applicant and everyone included in the application, children too, complete biometric registration: fingerprints, a photograph and an iris scan. After that the certificate of registration and the biometric passport are issued.

10 / Travel

Where you can travel and where a visa is needed

Destinations fall into four entry regimes. We do not publish an exact number of visa-free countries as an argument: the lists change, and for Saint Kitts they are changing right now. We prepare the current list on the date of your enquiry.

Mode 01

Visa-free

The Schengen area for 90 days out of 180, the Caribbean, Latin America, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the UAE and part of Africa. That is the bulk of the passport’s destinations.

Mode 02

Electronic authorisation

The United Kingdom — entry without a visa but with an ETA arranged online before the trip. Individual countries in Asia and Oceania work the same way.

Mode 03

Visa on arrival

The permit is issued at the airport or at the border. The receiving country sets the requirements for passport validity and supporting documents.

Mode 04

Visa required in advance

The United States, Canada, Australia, China and, from 15 June 2026, Ireland. The visa is obtained before the trip on general terms.

All countries on a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport

140+ destinations with nothing to arrange in advance — visa-free or with a visa on arrival

Where you are admitted without a visa, where the permit is arranged online, where the visa is issued at the border and where a consular visa is needed — with the length of stay given for each country.

The basis and the risks: on 15 June 2026 Ireland introduced a visa regime for citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis. On 25 June 2026 the European Commission sent Saint Kitts and Nevis and four other Caribbean states letters proposing that citizenship by investment programmes be wound down by 1 June 2028; if they refuse, suspension of the visa waiver with the Schengen area is under consideration within the reinforced mechanism. We have to say it plainly: keeping the visa waiver for the whole life of the passport cannot be guaranteed, and a decision should not rest on it alone. Entry rules are set by the receiving states and may change at any time.

11 / Our role

Why people obtain Saint Kitts and Nevis citizenship with us

We have worked since 2004. In that time more than 8,000 families have come through us. The Caribbean programmes are one of our key directions, and we run Saint Kitts as a programme with its own limits.

01

Filing through a licensed agent

The official procedure expressly prohibits direct filing: the application is accepted only from an agent on the CIU list. We work through licensed agents and check an agent’s status against the official list — which is also where those who have lost their licence are published.

02

A straight assessment before the start

First we check whether the programme is open to your citizenship and biography — and only then take on the work. If we see a material risk of refusal, we say so plainly and propose an alternative. We do not take on cases we are not confident in.

03

The risks are set out before the contract

The EU position on the Caribbean programmes, the mandatory biometrics and the seven-year holding period for a property — we go through these at the consultation, not after signing. You will not hear promises from us that the state never made.

04

The full cycle, including life after the passport

Renewing the document, biometric registration, opening an account, registering a company, adding family members, registering children by descent. We stay with the client after the passport is issued.

12 / Team

Who runs the Saint Kitts and Nevis citizenship process

A Saint Kitts application is run not by a “sales manager” but by a permanent team: the programme lawyer, a compliance specialist and a family coordinator. You know them all by name from day one.

16 / News

What has changed in the Saint Kitts programme

25 June 2026

The European Commission sent Saint Kitts and Nevis and four other Caribbean states letters proposing that citizenship by investment programmes be wound down by 1 June 2028. If they refuse, suspension of the visa waiver with the Schengen area is under consideration.

15 June 2026

Ireland introduced a visa regime for citizens of Saint Kitts and Nevis. This does not affect visa-free entry to the Schengen area or the United Kingdom: Ireland is not part of the Schengen area.

14 April 2026

The Federation moved to biometric passports of the new type. Everyone who obtained citizenship through the investment programme, children included, must complete biometric registration by 31 July 2027 — after that date old-format passports are not accepted for international travel.

31 July 2024

The Citizenship by Investment Unit became a separate legal entity with its own board of governors. At the same time the CIDD unit for continuous international screening began work: it checks holders of citizenship after it has been granted.

17 / Questions

Answers to common questions

No, since 2023 the programme does not accept applications from citizens of Russia and Belarus. The practice for other citizenships has changed and continues to change, so we confirm availability for your passport in writing with a licensed agent before any documents are prepared and before any costs. If Saint Kitts is closed to you, at the consultation we will find a programme that is open.

SISC is a non-refundable contribution to the state fund, $250,000 for an applicant or a family of up to four, with no state option fees. The Public Benefit Option has the same $250,000 threshold but fees after approval, so the total is higher. Property from a developer is a share in an approved project from $325,000. A private house is from $600,000. The last two options are recoverable in the sense that the property stays your asset and can be sold no earlier than seven years later.

The $250,000 contribution covers the main applicant and up to three dependants — for up to four people in the application the total grows only through screening and fees. After that each dependant aged 18 and over adds $50,000 to the contribution and each child under 18 adds $25,000. Everyone aged 16 and over goes through due diligence: $10,000 for the main applicant and $7,500 for each dependant. The programme sets no limit on the number of dependants.

For a single applicant the difference in the investment is $75,000. That is the price of $325,000 staying an asset rather than an expense. For large families the gap narrows: the contribution grows with each person above four, while the cost of the property does not change. From seven participants we calculate both options and choose on the facts, not on a general rule.

After the approval-in-principle letter, not on filing. Before approval only due diligence and the mandatory fees are paid. This is a matter of principle in the programme: first the state checks the applicant, and only then does the main money move.

Yes. An interview is mandatory for every main applicant — it is conducted by an independent company engaged by the CIU. The authority may call dependants aged 16 and over for an interview at its discretion. We confirm the procedure and the format with a licensed agent as at the date of filing.

No. The official procedure states expressly that the application is filed only through an agent from the list of licensed agents; the Citizenship by Investment Unit does not accept documents directly. The CIU website also publishes the list of agents whose licence has been withdrawn — the choice of agent is worth checking against the official list.

At present the passport gives visa-free entry to the Schengen area for 90 days out of 180 and to the United Kingdom with an ETA electronic authorisation. At the same time the European Union’s position on the Caribbean programmes is tightening: in June 2026 the Commission proposed that five countries, Saint Kitts and Nevis among them, wind their programmes down by 1 June 2028. Keeping the visa waiver for the whole life of the passport cannot be guaranteed, and we do not build the only argument on it.

The Federation moved to biometric passports: from 14 April 2026 only those are issued. Everyone who obtained citizenship through the investment programme, children included, must complete biometric registration by 31 July 2027 — otherwise the passport will stop being accepted for international travel. The separate biometrics fee that agents mention has not been published officially and is therefore not included in the calculation on this page.

The CIU states a processing time of 120-180 days from confirmation of filing. In BRIDGES practice the path from the first consultation to the passport takes 5-6 months: preparing the file, screening and issuing the documents are added to the processing time. That is longer than Vanuatu, but Saint Kitts is a programme with Schengen, the United Kingdom and a recoverable property option.

Yes. Saint Kitts and Nevis permits dual citizenship and does not require you to give up your current passport. You also do not have to live in the country to keep the status. It is worth checking separately how the law of your current country of citizenship treats a second citizenship.

Yes. A child born after the status is granted is registered by descent, with no new investment. We handle the child’s certificate and passport. The passport itself has a fixed term: from April 2026 it is replaced only with a biometric one.

In individual cases payment by a sponsor is possible — where the source of funds and the connection between the applicant and the payer are confirmed. We agree the payment structure before filing so that the transfer passes the checks: we have handled such cases, and one of them is set out in the selection below.
