Where they started
Maxim was a Malta MPRP resident traveling across Europe as a standard residence permit holder. During a trip to Italy, his bag with documents was stolen, including the residence permit card itself. In one moment, he was left without the main proof of his status, in a foreign country.
Why the standard route did not work
Panic in such situations is understandable, but dangerous. People begin to panic: attempting to fly without documents, arguing at the border, traveling blindly. This only worsens the situation and creates gaps in the residence history that later surface during renewals.
What BRIDGES had to solve
It is important to understand: resident status is not annulled due to loss of a plastic card. The card is merely the bearer document, not the status itself. But for this to work in practice - to move legally and return - proper replacement documents are needed, issued in the correct order.
Why a standard answer would not do
Maxim contacted BRIDGES directly from Italy. The task was twofold: urgently provide him with legal means to return and simultaneously reissue the card without creating a gap in his status.
