Client's Story
Where they started
Sergey obtained Malta Permanent Residence through the MPRP program several years ago for the entire family: spouse and two children. EU resident status was active, cards in hand, life proceeded normally. It seemed that the main thing was to obtain the status, and then it simply exists.
Why the standard route did not work
This illusion was misleading. MPRP is not a one-time transaction, but a status with annual obligations, including a mandatory report. In the third year, report preparation was delegated to the secretary - who negligently failed to submit the report on time. Sergey did not even immediately learn of the problem.
What BRIDGES had to solve
The authorities' reaction proved extremely harsh: instead of a reminder, a decree was issued suspending and annulling residence cards for the entire family. A single missed action put four people's status at risk simultaneously, including children whose lives were already tied to Malta.
Why a standard answer would not do
Major fees paid for the program were also at stake: their loss along with the status turned the situation into a catastrophe. Sergey contacted BRIDGES when he realized that ordinary correspondence would not solve the issue - urgent on-site action was required.
I was confident that the main thing was to obtain permanent residence, and then it simply exists. I learned that the secretary had not submitted the annual report when the decree on annulment of residence cards for the entire family arrived. It was a shock - because of one document, my children's status was at risk. BRIDGES attorneys flew to Valletta and restored everything.
