Client's Story
Where they started
The client obtained Antigua citizenship, and some time later married. Naturally, he wanted his new spouse to obtain the same status and opportunities as him—so the family would share one citizenship.
Why the standard route did not work
Sometimes there is doubt: since the marriage was concluded after obtaining a passport, rather than at the time of the main application, can a spouse be added at all? Yes, she can. The Antigua program provides for the addition of new family members who appear after citizenship is obtained, including a spouse with whom the marriage is concluded later.
What BRIDGES had to solve
This is done through a separate procedure, without repeating the entire process from the beginning: a supplementary application for the spouse is submitted with marriage confirmation and necessary documents, a background check is conducted on the new family member, and required fees are paid. It is important to complete everything correctly and according to the rules so that the spouse obtains citizenship on equal terms with her husband.
Why a standard answer would not do
At BRIDGES, the client came for exactly this: to add a new spouse, who appeared after his naturalization, to Antigua citizenship through a separate procedure, so that the entire family would share one status.
I obtained an Antigua passport and then got married, and I wanted my wife to be a citizen too. I doubted whether it was possible to add her since the marriage was after the passport. Anna explained that it was possible: a new spouse is added through a separate procedure. We submitted a supplementary application with marriage confirmation, my wife passed the background check, we paid the fees, and she obtained citizenship on equal terms with me. We didn't have to go through the entire process again. Now we both share one status—exactly what I wanted for our family.
