Where they started
For Alexander, "family" meant not just his wife and children. He wanted to bring his entire family to safe Europe: his spouse, children, his own parents and his wife's parents, as well as the older generation—four generations in total, eight people. He was not willing to leave the elderly behind.
Why the standard route did not work
And here he hit a wall with almost all programs. Standard residence and permanent residence options allow inclusion of a spouse and minor children, sometimes one's own parents. But including parents and grandparents from both sides, and without a separate substantial investment for each person, is simply impossible in most countries. Relocating eight people threatened to become several separate expensive cases.
What BRIDGES had to solve
The complexity was not just about money, but also about rules: each ascending relative must meet the conditions and confirm financial dependency, and the program must in principle allow such composition. Most countries simply say "no" to four generations.
