Where they started
Gennady Petrovich lived a long, active life and approached the age of 71 with a clear goal—not for himself, but for his family. He wanted the European passport primarily as a legacy: so that his grandchildren would grow up with the right to live, study, and work in the EU, which he himself never had.
Why the standard route did not work
But standard pathways did not suit him. Most programs require lengthy residency—months of physical residence in the country. Due to his health condition, Gennady Petrovich simply could not live under such requirements: long relocations and extended stays away from familiar medical care were medically inadvisable for him.
What BRIDGES had to solve
A painful paradox arose: he had the ability and desire, he had the means, yet the standard door was closed by age and health. Purchasing status "like everyone else" did not work for him—he needed a pathway that would account for his limitations while leading to real, transferable citizenship.
Why a standard answer would not do
He approached BRIDGES seeking an unconventional solution: to obtain European status without the grueling residency requirement and—most importantly—to lay the foundation so that the passport would become the beginning of a family line of citizenship, not a one-time achievement for a single person.
I am seventy-one, and my health is no longer what it was to live away from home and doctors for months. But I wanted to leave my grandchildren what I myself was deprived of—Europe. Anna and her team found a way where I did not have to live under residency requirements, and citizenship became a legacy for the entire family.
