A guide to citizenship of Nauru:terms, cost and risks
A practical guide to the Nauru investment programme. We work through the size of the contribution and the mandatory fees, including the family, how the applicant is checked, the stages of the process and what the passport does not solve by itself.

Preliminary information is not a guarantee of approval. Whether the programme is available and the final cost are determined once the applicant has been checked.
01 / The essentials first
What you need to know before you consider Nauru
The Nauru programme is one of the newest on the market: it has run since 2024 under a statute of its own. The entry point is lower than in most citizenship-by-investment programmes, but what the passport allows has narrowed noticeably over the past year, and the check on the applicant is mandatory.
- A single option
A non-refundable contribution in favour of the state: $90 000 for the main applicant when filing before 31 December 2026 and $115 000 thereafter. The programme provides for no return of any part of the amount.
- A wide family
The programme expressly names the spouse and dependants, parents, brothers and sisters included. The age threshold for the additional fees is 16, not the usual 18, and that changes the quotation for a family with teenagers noticeably.
- The United Kingdom has closed
Since 9 December 2025 citizens of Nauru need a British visa, and the electronic travel authorisation is no longer issued to them. The citizenship-by-investment programme itself was named as the reason for the decision.
- Europe is not confirmed
Nauru is listed in Annex II of the EU regulation, but with a footnote: the visa exemption applies only from the date the agreement with the European Union enters into force. We do not claim visa-free Schengen travel for this passport.
02 / A preliminary calculation
What the process may cost for your family
Set out the family. The calculation breaks the contribution and every mandatory fee down on the official table of the Nauru Program Office and shows the difference between the promotional and the standard terms. There are no invented figures in it.
03 / Two tariffs
Filing before 31 December 2026 or after
The programme has a single option — a contribution in favour of the state. What differs is the terms by the date of filing. Every value is taken from the official table of the Nauru Program Office and checked on 3 August 2026.
The values were checked against the official material on 03.08.2026. Only the rows for which there is no official wording are marked separately.

04 / What the guide contains
What is inside the guide
The guide helps you see the preliminary budget, prepare your questions and spot the weak points of the file before the process begins. The individual calculation is made once the family and the applicant’s citizenship have been reviewed.
- The country profileThe Republic of Nauru: where it is, what it lives on and what the programme is tied to.
- The family in one applicationWho may be included and why the family decides the budget.
- Risks and the checkWhat refusals come from and what is examined first.
- After the passportWhat clients do with the status next and what banks ask about.
- From BRIDGES practiceHow the support is arranged and who answers for the file.
- The next stepsWhat to check and prepare before the process begins.
05 / How the work runs
From the preliminary check to the documents
The programme gives a guide of three to four months for the review. That is a stated period, not an obligation, so we promise no timings by stage. Below is the sequence of the work and who answers for what.
- A preliminary assessment
We check the citizenship, the family, the applicant’s background and whether the programme applies at all. No documents are needed at this stage.
- The calculation for the family
We cost the contribution and the fees on the official table, allowing for the age threshold of 16 and the separate tariff for brothers and sisters.
- Preparing the file
We assemble the documents and the evidence of the source of funds, and arrange translations, apostilles and certifications.
- Due diligence
The applicant and the dependants aged 16 and over go through the mandatory check. The competent authority may request further information.
- The review of the application
The decision is taken by the competent authority of the Republic of Nauru. BRIDGES GLOBAL does not guarantee approval and does not influence the decision.
- Payment and completing the procedure
We confirm how and when the contribution is paid against the procedure in force as at the date of filing.
- Issuing the documents
The passport fee is paid for each passport issued. We confirm how the documents are issued against the current procedure.
07 / The check on the applicant
What has to be prepared for due diligence
The applicant and the relatives aged 16 and over included in the application are checked. The fees for the check are not returned if the application is refused, so the file is prepared before filing rather than along the way. The first consultation takes place without handing over any documents.
- Personal and business background
The chronology of employment, senior positions, participation in companies and public activity.
- Current and previous citizenships
Every passport and residence permit, including those obtained under investment programmes.
- Tax residency
The countries in which you are treated as a tax resident, and the grounds for that status.
- The source of funds
Where the particular money paying the contribution came from: the sale of a stake, dividends, salary, an inheritance.
- The source of wealth
How the capital was built over a career — a wider picture than the origin of a single amount.
- Banking relationships
The banks used, the history of the relationship, letters and statements for the period required.
- Corporate structures
Shareholdings, beneficial ownership, trusts, foundations and holding companies.
- Court and criminal proceedings
Current and concluded proceedings, civil disputes and tax claims included.
- Sanctions and PEP factors
A check against the sanctions lists and the status of a politically exposed person — for you and for connected persons.
- Adverse media
Publications in the press and in open databases that the reviewer will see and will ask about.
- Information on family members
The same data for every applicant aged 16 and over included in the application.
- Explaining large transactions
Explanations for unusual credits and transfers over the period under review.
A complete set of documents does not mean automatic approval. The final decision is taken by the competent authority of the Republic of Nauru after its own check.
08 / Important before you decide
What a Nauru passport does not solve by itself
For each point we give a link to the primary source where one exists. This is the part people usually learn about after paying.
Travel to the United KingdomA visa has been required since 9 December 2025
The United Kingdom introduced a visa requirement for citizens of Nauru from 15:00 GMT on 9 December 2025 and removed Nauru from the list of countries whose citizens may use the electronic travel authorisation. ETA applications from citizens of Nauru closed on 20 January 2026. A separate transit visa may be required to transit a British airport.

Nauru appears in Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, but with a footnote: the visa exemption applies only from the date a visa-waiver agreement with the European Union enters into force. We do not publish a claim of visa-free Schengen travel on a Nauru passport: whether such an agreement exists and is in force has to be confirmed as at the date of travel.
Source: Regulation (EU) 2018/1806, Annex IIHow durable the travel options areThey may change at any moment
The European Union’s updated visa-suspension mechanism names citizenship-by-investment programmes expressly as a ground for suspension where the investor has no genuine link with the country. The United Kingdom’s decision on Nauru was taken precisely because of the programme. Travel should not be planned on the strength of the current list of countries.
Source: The EU visa-suspension mechanismThe number of visa-free countriesWe do not publish it
Rankings of visa-free destinations are compiled by private companies; their data changes and they disagree with one another. The only verifiable source for a particular country is that country’s own visa rules as at the date of travel. So we quote neither «around 90 countries» nor any other figure, and check the destinations you need one by one.
TaxCitizenship by itself does not change it
Obtaining citizenship does not end tax obligations in other countries and does not make the applicant a tax resident of Nauru automatically. Residency is determined by the law of the particular countries and by the facts — where you live, where the centre of your interests lies, how many days you spend. We do not publish claims of a «zero tax regime» as a consequence of the passport.
Bank accountsThe passport does not guarantee an account
Banks run their own compliance and assess passports obtained under investment programmes separately. A new programme without a long history usually raises more questions, not fewer. Holding a second citizenship does not replace evidencing the source of funds to a bank.
The processing timeThree to four months is the programme’s guide
The period comes from the programme itself. It is a stated guide, not a standard carrying liability if it is missed: the check may take longer, and the competent authority may request further information.
Source: Nauru Program OfficeWhether the contribution comes backIt does not
The contribution under the Nauru programme is non-refundable. The programme’s official material describes no mechanism for returning part of the amount after a set period — unlike programmes where an investment component formally comes back.
Source: Nauru Program Office, ContributionAvailability for particular citizenshipsConfirmed before the agreement is signed
The programme publishes no official list of restrictions by citizenship. We give no list of «accepted» and «not accepted» countries: we confirm in writing with the licensed agent whether filing is possible on your citizenship before the documents are prepared.
Keeping your current citizenshipIt is checked against the law of your own country
Nauru does not require you to renounce your previous citizenship, but what obtaining a second passport entails is determined by the law of the country of your current citizenship — including any duty to notify.

10 / Question and answer
Common questions about citizenship of Nauru
What is this programme and what does it run on?
The Nauru programme is called the Nauru Economic and Climate Resilience Citizenship Program and runs under the Nauru Economic and Climate Resilience Citizenship Act 2024. It is administered by the Nauru Program Office. The stated purpose of the programme is to fund economic diversification and measures to adapt to climate change.
What does taking part cost?
The contribution for the main applicant is $90 000 for applications filed before 31 December 2026 and $115 000 thereafter. On top of the contribution come the application fee ($5 000 for the applicant and $2 000 for each dependant), due diligence ($6 000 and $3 000 for a dependant aged 16 and over), the bank check with the transfer fee, and a passport fee of $500 for each passport.
Why are different amounts quoted?
Because a time-limited discount is in force: the contribution is $25 000 lower for applications filed before 31 December 2026. Which tariff applies is decided by the date the application is filed, not by the date of the consultation or of the agreement. The promotion has been extended and adjusted before, so we check the condition as at the date of your filing.
Who may be included in the application?
The programme’s official page states that the application may include the spouse and dependants, parents, brothers and sisters included. The programme publishes no age conditions for each category in its open material, so we confirm the right to include a particular relative in writing before filing.
Why does the calculation use 16 rather than 18?
That is how the official Nauru fee table works: the additional contribution and the due diligence fee are charged for dependants aged 16 and over. It differs from most programmes, where the threshold is 18, and it affects the total for a family with teenagers noticeably.
What do brothers and sisters cost in the application?
For each brother or sister of the applicant or of the spouse the contribution is $15 000 whatever their age. It is a separate tariff: it is higher than the extra payment for other dependants and has to be allowed for in the family budget in advance.
Is the contribution returned?
No. The contribution under the Nauru programme is non-refundable, and the programme’s official material describes no mechanism for returning part of the amount. If you are offered an option with a return, the terms and the legal basis must be confirmed in writing before the agreement is signed.
Do I have to travel to Nauru?
The programme’s official page states that there is no minimum stay and no visit requirement. We confirm the particular filing procedure and how the documents are issued against the process in force as at the date of filing, and fix it in writing before the work begins.
How long does the application take?
The programme gives a guide of three to four months. That is the programme’s own stated period, not a standard carrying liability if it is missed: the check may take longer, and the competent authority may request further information and defer its decision.
Can I travel to the United Kingdom without a visa?
No. The citizenship-by-investment programme was named expressly as the reason for the decision.
And to the countries of the European Union?
We do not claim visa-free entry to the European Union on a Nauru passport. Nauru appears in Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806 with a footnote: the visa exemption applies only from the date a visa-waiver agreement with the European Union enters into force. In addition, the updated visa-suspension mechanism names citizenship-by-investment programmes expressly as a ground for ending visa-free travel.
How many countries are open without a visa?
We do not publish that number. Rankings of visa-free destinations are compiled by private companies, their data changes and they disagree with one another, and the decisions of the United Kingdom and the European Union in recent years show how quickly such a list shrinks. The verifiable source is the visa rules of the particular country as at the date of travel; we check the destinations you need one by one.
Does citizenship of Nauru change tax residency?
By itself, no. Citizenship does not end tax obligations in other countries and does not make the applicant a tax resident of Nauru automatically. Tax residency is determined by the law of the particular countries and by the facts — where you live, where the centre of your interests lies, how many days a year you spend there.
Can the state authority refuse?
Yes. The decision is taken by the competent authority of the Republic of Nauru after the mandatory check. A complete file does not mean automatic approval, and no adviser can guarantee the outcome. The costs of the check are not returned if the application is refused.
Which documents evidence the source of funds?
The set depends on where the capital came from. Usually it is the contracts and documents for the sale of a stake or an asset, dividend resolutions and statements, income certificates and tax returns, documents on an inheritance or a gift, bank statements for the period required with explanations of large transactions, and evidence of the ownership structure of the business. The first consultation takes place without handing over any documents.
