Client's Story
Where they started
The client was developing an eco-tourism business tied to West Africa: routes, natural venues, and local partners were scattered across several neighboring countries in the region. The business required constant travel, and here he encountered border restrictions.
Why the standard route did not work
With a passport that did not provide freedom of movement across the region, every trip turned into a visa ordeal: application, waiting, risk of delays. For a business requiring operational visits to venues and meetings with partners in different countries, this became a direct impediment.
What BRIDGES had to solve
Sierra Leone is a member of ECOWAS, the Economic Community of West African States, whose citizens enjoy freedom of movement across member countries (Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, and others). The Sierra Leone passport, which is obtained through the GO-FOR-GOLD program, provided the client with exactly this regional freedom—the ability to travel across West Africa without visa barriers for each country. To be clear: this is freedom within ECOWAS, not global visa-free travel; outside the region, country regulations remain in effect.
Why a standard answer would not do
At BRIDGES, the client came for this business mobility: to obtain Sierra Leone citizenship as a member of ECOWAS in order to conduct eco-tourism business freely across West Africa. Where to open routes and venues was his decision; our task was to provide freedom of movement.
My business is eco-tourism across West Africa, and partners with venues are scattered across neighboring countries. With my previous passport, every trip meant a visa and waiting—business moved slowly. Igor suggested Sierra Leone: a country in ECOWAS where citizens move freely across the region. I got the passport—and the region opened up; I travel to venues without visas for each country. He was honest that this is freedom within ECOWAS, not worldwide. That was exactly what I needed for my business.
